Maureen McMillan's Battle

A sea of purple in the hallways at the Northern Lights Health Centre in Fort McMurray on Tuesdays has a truly touching story behind the purpose.

A nurse that worked on the pediatrics unit started her own journey battling cancer. She went for weekly treatments where people knew her name. You would never guess it as she always remained the same. Her smile was infectious, her laugh tells it all. Momma Mo lit up the floor.

The nurses at the hospital and throughout the community came together to support their Momma bear, “Eggplants on Tuesday.. We will never forget to wear.”

Kallie of Kalex Custom Carvings worked as a registered nurse with the ladies seen in the above picture on the 2nd floor of the hospital. To support Momma Mo’s treatment expenses and costs for her family, Kalex Custom Carvings created a Christmas themed sign for the silent auction that was held at McDonald Island Park in December 2015. The nursing team put together many fundraisers for the cause.

Nurses Prayer
Please help me to bring
Comfort where there is pain
Courage where there is fear
Hope where there is despair
Acceptance when the end is near
A gentle touch with
Tenderness, patience & Love

Although your passing will leave emptiness,
Heartache and sorrow;
It would be foolish to mourn your passing
As we live our lives tomorrow.
But rather thank God in all his glory,
For the Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister and Friend,
So we can celebrate & cherish your life,
As this is not the end.
