The Come Over to My House Series
The Come Over To My House Series is written by Sheila Chartrand and illustrated by her daughter, Kallie Williams. The series is based on true events and on stories Sheila would tell her children when they were little. The mother and daughter duo combined their talents to write these books in memory of Sheila’s son (Kallie’s brother), Corey Chartrand. Corey (16) was in a vehicle collision with his friend, Neil Bursey (19), on Highway 69 in December of 2010.
WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?
The organization Kids Forever reached out to the family when this tragedy occurred and the family became huge supporters of the organization. Unfortunately, Kids Forever is no longer in operation. Kids Forever was a locally founded organization that helped children with special needs and/or severe illnesses. All of the money that was raised by Kids Forever went toward the families in need.
After ending in 2015, Sheila and Kallie still wanted to help charities and organizations that are children and family oriented. They arranged to have donations from the sale of each book go toward Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton. Many families from Fort McMurray stay in Ronald McDonald house every year and are faced with costly expenses while their child or children undergo intense medical treatments that are not available in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
SHEILA’S STORY TIME
The duo also launched a program within the schools in Fort McMurray called Sheila’s Story Time. The goal was to have a book in every child’s hands from grades K-6. Sponsors were able to donate a specified amount where a portion would be used to purchase the books for the children and the other portion would go toward charity. Contact Sheila or Kallie to find out more about the books, getting involved in the program, or to become a sponsor!
